Many people visit the East side of the Big Island and never make it our wonderful Panaewa Zoo. The zoo is only a short drive from Ohia House Bed and Breakfast, on the way to Hilo on Hwy. 11 and offers so much. A stroll through the zoo is like walking through a tropical botanical garden, so beautiful, colorful and well kept. You will enjoy the assortment of animal attractions as well the peacocks roaming throughout! Happy News! The zoo is getting two new tigers! Our young tigers will be at the Zoo this Friday! Great Cats World Park in Cave Junction, Oregon are donating to us a white male, born on July 15 and a female yellow bengal tiger born a week earlier. They were bottle-fed and hand-raised with their siblings, so our pair are great friends. Huge KUDOS to our director, Pam Mizuno, who has worked tirelessly in the two years since Namaste died to get us another tiger. This long process to find a young pair, get the permit approved, and arrange for the shipping was frustrating and stressfull! Shipping will be very expensive. Friends of the Zoo could use some donations towards that cost. smile emoticon They will have to stay in their night house for the state’s quarantine period of 120 days. I will keep you posted with more current pictues soon.
